Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
and Misc. Educational Information
DO I NEED A FISHING LICENSE?
NO ...Capt Mike has a blanket fishing license that covers himself, as well
as his anglers!
(He is also fully insured....So no worries!)
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Capt Mike will provide all the bait and tackle that you will need, as well
as ice and bottled water.
It is recommended that you bring sunscreen, a hat, snacks, NON-MARKING SHOES
(no black soles please), polarized sunglasses ( so that you may TRULY capture
the full experience), and a camera.
*A small cooler may be necessary, depending on the type of trip you select...please
ask the Capt!
**PLEASE DRESS ACCORDINGLY.....it can be cool on the water
WHAT TYPE OF FISH CAN I EXPECT TO CATCH?
Capt Mike says.. that all depends on the type of trip that you select? However,
the main species that you will be targeting are REDFISH and SPECKLED TROUT.
Our trips are designed to focus on just two species of fish. Catching the more
"quality" fish in either of these two groups requires having the perfect
bait, conditions, tackle, and skills. Capt Mike has spent most of his time using
LIVE BAIT! This requires more preparation on his part, but produces BIGGER fish
at the end of the day!!
However........for those anglers who prefer the "thrill of the hunt"
old school style with plastics and artificials...Capt Mike offers a FULL RANGE
of trips to please this angler as well!
Sight fishing or wade fishing are also available, as well as fly fishing trips!
(sorry, no fly tackle will be provided)
WHERE WILL WE BE FISHING?
Well....it all depends on the type of trip you select? But mostly...the St
Andrews Bay system which includes the North, East & West Bay sectors.
However, you may choose an excursion to Port St Joe, which is gorgeous, but
will require a longer day.
You may also choose a Crooked Island excursion, which can include shelling...Or
you may decide to go with a Lake Powell adventure which features brackish water
and your chance to catch a multitude of species.
Believe me...Capt mike offers a fun and educational trip for everyone!
WILL I BE ABLE TO HAVE MY FISH CLEANED?
YES!!!....Capt Mike will clean and dress your catch while you wait! In fact,
many of the marinas/boat launches offer drinks, snacks and restrooms. The Port
St Joe marina features a family owned store and "back porch" type atmosphere,
while the East Bay marina hosts the "Dawg House" ( a bayside tiki bar
environment). Both of which are 2nd home to many local fisherman and tall tales
are passed around as the sun sets!
WHAT IS FLATS FISHING?
Flats fishing provides memories of a lifetime for even the most inexperienced
of fisherman. True flats fishing is accomplished utilizing small skiffs and up
to 2 anglers. This enables the guide to pole across extremely shallow waters in
search of Redfish and Trout. It often parallels hunting. its success is measured
by the ability to visually locate fish, to quietly approach to within casting
distance, to precisely place your cast, and to masterfully play the fish during
its long runs over the flats.
The stalking of these fish is truly an adrenaline rush, but the landing of
your trophy fish is a memory of a lifetime!!
